It’s a charity event designed to be an adventure and not a competition for its participants

The Mongol Rally is a car charity rally that begins in Europe and ends in Mongolia, with no predefined route. We will start in our hometown Lugo, and will follow the Silk Road through most of our journey, crossing countries like Iran, Kyrgyzstan or Kazakhstan. While we drive through more than 16.000km, we will also donate medical supplies, sports and school materials along our way.

The rally is designed as an adventure for the participants, and not a traditional rally/race, as there is no recognition for the first to finish, and there is not any kind of support from the organization along the way. All participants must raise funds for NGO´s or associations of their choice.

CHARITY

WE ARE GOING TO SUPPORT THE FOLLOWING HUMANITARIAN AID ORGANIZATIONS

SOMOS UNIDOS POR EL CÁNCER

Somos UPEC is an association founded in Lugo that helps people affected by cancer, both patients and relatives. All the money they raise through several events is invested on cancer research. Both their organizers and our team have a close relationship with the disease, so we will collaborate with them in several events and donate an economic contribution.

You might find more information on their Web and Facebook (Spanish).

LA OTRA MIRADA

This organization is based in one of the poorest areas of Ulan Bator, and it has recently built a day care centre for children with brittle bone disease. It’s a relatively common disease in Mongolia for which there are no schools prepared. We will donate our ambulance and medical supplies once we arrive in Mongolia.

ENVIRONTMENTALLY FRIENDLY

Our team, La Sonrisa Nómada, would like to help or contribute in any way that’s possible within our reach. Therefore, we would like to convert this adventure into a green one. We will estimate the CO2 emissions of our vehicle throughout all the 16.000 km that our route will likely entail, so we can compensate such consumption by planting the amount of trees necessary to cover it. We will do so upon our return to Lugo.

HISTORY

The first rally was held in 2004, in which six teams started and only four completed the course. Throughout the years, the rally increased its popularity and last year, the organizers, The League of Adventurists International Ltd., raised more than 200,000 euros with the help of more than 300 teams. These funds were used to help several humanitarian organizations that work in Mongolia and many other countries. In addition to this amount there are the vehicles donated which remain in Mongolia to help such associations, as it will be our case when we arrive to Mongolia.
